Micro etching agent acc. to PALMERTON
Microetching agent according to PALMERTON has been specially developed for metallography and is mainly used in scientific laboratories. It is particularly suitable for most zinc grades and zinc alloys, including those with copper. It is particularly effective for lead-containing rolled zinc.
It is an aqueous solution of chromium(VI) oxide (CAS No. 1333-82-0) and sodium sulfate (CAS No. 7757-82-6). The chemical reaction of the components causes surface structures of the materials under examination to become visible, while impurities are removed.
When PALMERTON microetching agents are used, an etching time of 2 to 3 minutes usually takes place. For zinc alloys containing copper, the sodium sulfate content is halved to achieve optimum results. The etching process is followed by rinsing with a 20% aqueous chromium(VI) oxide solution.
By using this microetching agent, precise surface structures of metals and alloys can be visualized, leading to better research and analytical results. This particularly supports the investigation of zinc alloys and lead-containing rolled zinc.
