Acetate Buffer pH 4.0
Acetate Buffer pH 4.0 consists of an aqueous base in which sodium acetate and acetic acid are dissolved to form a stable buffer with a pH of 4.0.
Applications for this buffer are many, including use in molecular biology, biochemistry and histology. Specifically, Acetate Buffer pH 4.0 is suitable for stains that require an acidic pH, such as alizarin red S stains for the detection of calcium in hard tissues.
The chemical operation of the acetate buffer is to maintain a stable pH in solutions by allowing the buffer system to absorb or release protons (H+). The buffering capacity results from the equilibrium between acetic acid and its conjugate base, sodium acetate, which keeps the system able to withstand pH fluctuations.
Advantages of Acetate Buffer pH 4.0 over similar products include its ease of preparation, stability and versatility of use. The use of the buffer allows precise control of pH in experimental systems, resulting in accurate and reproducible results. In addition, the acetate buffer is inexpensive and readily available, making it a practical choice for many laboratory applications.
