Alcian Blue 0.2 %
Alcian Blue 0.2% (pH 2.5 with acetic acid) is a staining solution used in histology and cytology for staining acidic mucopolysaccharides and glycosaminoglycans. Alcian blue is a basic dye that selectively binds to acidic polysaccharides, highlighting them in a blue hue.
The solution is adjusted to a pH of 2.5 with acetic acid to optimize the selectivity of the stain. At this pH, Alcian blue binds primarily to acidic mucopolysaccharides, while other cell structures remain in the background. This allows for differential visualization and analysis of acidic mucopolysaccharides and glycosaminoglycans in cell and tissue samples.
Staining with Alcian Blue 0.2% (pH 2.5 with acetic acid) is used primarily in the study of connective tissue, cartilage, mucosa, and other tissues in which acidic mucopolysaccharides and glycosaminoglycans play an important role. The technique is particularly useful for examining the spatial distribution and quantity of these structures, which is relevant for assessing tissue function, structure, and possible disease.
Alcian blue can also be combined with other staining methods to provide multiple staining of different cellular structures and tissue components.

Verwendung:
