Auramin Solution (~ 1 %)
Auramine Solution (~1%) (SAFELINE), a component of the SAFELINE product line, is composed of an aqueous base and approximately 1% of the fluorescent dye Auramine O. Its suitability for use in schools and by home users results from the combination of its ease of use and low hazard.
Auramine O, known by the C.I. number 41000 and chemically C17H22N3Cl, binds specifically to acidic components of cells and tissues as a basic dye. This affinity is particularly used in medical diagnostics and histology, where the solution is used for fluorescent staining of mycobacteria.
The interaction between the positive charges of the dye and the negative charges of the cellular components allows specific binding. Subsequent fluorescence under UV light produces a high-contrast image that allows precise analysis and identification of the stained structures.
Also, the auramine solution finds application in staining kits such as AAS - Astrablue-Auramine-Safranin and AK - Astrablue-Crystal Violet.
