Eosin-Methylene Blue after WRIGHT

Wright's eosin methylene blue is a staining solution mainly used in hematology and clinical cytology. It allows differential staining of blood cells and is particularly suitable for morphological evaluation of blood smears and bone marrow preparations.

The main components of this staining method are eosin and methylene blue. Eosin is a red dye that stains cellular components of an acidic nature in particular, such as the cytoplasm of erythrocytes and granulocytes. Methylene blue, on the other hand, is a basic dye that stains blue in particular structures with a basic character, such as cell nuclei and certain granules in leukocytes.

The combination of these two dyes enables differential staining, whereby different cell types and cell structures are stained differently. This allows differential assessment and identification of the different types of blood cells and their respective stages of maturation.

Wright's stain is a key tool in the diagnosis of blood disorders, including anemias, leukemias and other hematologic diseases.
