Formalin 37 %, acid-free, stabilized
Formalin 37% acid-free and stabilized is a highly concentrated solution of formaldehyde used as a base for the preparation of histological fixation solutions. Formalin is an aqueous solution of formaldehyde, an aldehyde that cross-links proteins and nucleic acids to provide stable fixation of cell structures.
The 37% Formalin acid-free and stabilized form has two main advantages: First, it is free of acids that can damage tissue structures during fixation. Second, it is stabilized to prevent the formation of formaldehyde gases and polymers that could affect fixation properties.
To prepare a suitable fixation solution for histology, the 37% formalin is usually diluted with water and, if necessary, a buffer system. A common working concentration for tissue fixation is approximately 4-10% formalin. The 37% formalin solution is suitable for a wide range of applications in histology, cytology and pathology and is used to fix cell and tissue structures prior to staining and examination under the microscope.
