Pikro polychrome solution
Picro Polychrome Solution is a special single-cell solution that is widely used, especially in histology and scientific laboratories. Its main applications include use as an in vitro diagnostic agent to examine tissue samples in greater detail by specific staining. The solution consists of a combination of picric acid, acid fuchsin, methyl blue, lithium carbonate, and glycerin aqueous solution.
Chemically, picric acid belongs to the nitrophenol group, while acid fuchsin is an azo dye and methyl blue is a basic aniline dye. Lithium carbonate is an alkali metal carbonate and glycerol is a polyhydric alcohol that also serves as a solubilizer. Aqua dist. denotes distilled water as the solvent.
The chemical properties and reactions of this solution, which occurs due to its chemical composition, are capable of selectively staining specific tissue components to facilitate tissue differentiation. For example, the solution is a component of staining kits such as HEROVICI staining for collagen differentiation.
Different results can be obtained by using the micro-polychrome solution, depending on the staining method and tissue types studied. For example, it can help identify tissue structures, differentiate collagen fibers, or visualize specific cell structures.
