SAMSON solution

SAMSON's solution is a special staining solution used in histology and microbiology. It enables the differentiation of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as the differentiation of various cell structures in tissue.

The chemical mode of operation is based on the combination of basic fuchsin, a triphenylmethane dye, with phenol and acetic acid. Basic fuchsin selectively binds to cell structures such as peptidoglycan in Gram-positive bacteria, while phenol intensifies the staining and acetic acid stabilizes the staining solution. Ethanol serves as an additional solvent to improve the solubility of the components.

The special suitability of SAMSON's solution lies in its ability to clearly visualize microbiological and histological structures. The aqueous base allows good distribution of the dye, while the acetic acid and phenol ensure optimal staining.
