Elastic fibres are found in the tissues of blood vessels, the skin and in certain cartilage tissue (elastic cartilage). The surface regions are used for staining, as they are formed by the typical, close interlacing of numerous elastic fibres. For a good visibility of the fibres a decoloration of the cartilage ground substance is often the prerequisite.
