Detection of glycogen

Glycogen analyses
Glycogen is a polymer of glucose. In animal organisms, it is a reserve substance that can be rapidly degraded to glucose if required. Depending on the size of these macromolecules, different glycogenes can be distinguished, which also show different chemical behaviour, for example with regard to their solubility in water. Glycogenes are distributed in the plasma in the cell; fixing pretreatment produces stainable granules or clods.
