Basic Fuchsine 1 %, aqueous
Basic fuchsin 1% is an aqueous solution consisting of 1 g basic fuchsin and 99 ml water. Basic fuchsin is a synthetic dye, also known as magenta, used as a stain in histology.
The 1% aqueous solution of basic fuchsin is of particular interest in the staining of bacteria and cell nuclei. It is widely used in Gram staining and Ziehl-Neelsen staining to visualize Gram-positive bacteria and acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In addition, basic fuchsin can also be used to stain nucleic acids, especially DNA.
The solution is usually applied to the samples to be stained, which are then further processed with appropriate differentiation solutions or counterstains to achieve the desired staining results.
