Eosin-Methylene Blue after LEISHMAN
The LEISHMAN Eosin Methylene Blue staining solution is a special solution for the microscopic examination of blood and bone marrow samples in medical laboratory diagnostics. It was developed by and named after the British pathologist William Boog Leishman.
In this solution, the basic dye methylene blue and the acidic dye eosin are combined. Methylene blue has the ability to stain basic (alkaline) cell components, such as DNA in cell nuclei, blue. Eosin, on the other hand, binds to acidic cell components, such as the cytoplasm of cells, and stains them red.
This staining solution is particularly used to distinguish between different types of blood cells and to diagnose blood diseases such as anemia, leukemia and malaria. It is also extremely useful in identifying blood parasites, such as trypanosomes and leishmania, which are strongly highlighted by the staining.
The use of Leishman's eosin methylene blue solution requires special techniques for fixing and staining specimens to ensure accurate and reliable results.
