Etchant according to MEYER & EICHHOLZ
Ready-to-use MEYER & EICHHOLZ etchant consists of hydrochloric acid (HCl), ferric chloride (FeCl3) and copper dichloride dihydrate (CuCl2-2H2O) in aqueous solution. It is widely used in metallography and enables cold working, deformation lines as well as microstructures in metallic samples to be visualized.
The main players in this etching solution are FeCl3 and CuCl2-2H2O, which decompose into complex ions after contact with the metal surface of samples. The highly effective solution selectively attacks the various phases and grain boundaries of metals, revealing microstructures and processing lines.
The product features chemical reactions in which metals of the sample and the components of the etching solution interact with each other. The excellent formulation of the solution results in selective etching that does not undesirably attack the metal surface. The application of the product leads not only to the visualization of cold working and deformation lines, but also to the detection of different metal phases and recognition of grain boundaries.
With the use of MEYER & EICHHOLZ etchant, impressive results can be achieved in terms of metal surfaces and their analysis. The essential use of the product is to reveal microstructures within metallic materials.
