CARAPELLA etching (alcoholic)
CARAPELLA etching (alcoholic) is a microetching agent used in metallography as well as in scientific laboratories. The product is suitable for Ni-Fe, Ni-Cu and Ni-Ag alloys, Ni-based superalloys and monel metals. It is applied by wipe etching for 5-60 seconds.
The solution consists of ethanol (CAS No.: 64-17-5), ferric chloride and hydrochloric acid (CAS No.: 7647-01-0). These chemical components work together to form an effective caustic.
The chemical reactions and properties of the product are based on the interaction between the acids and the metal, selectively attacking and dissolving the surface of the metal. Ethanol serves as a solvent and provides a controlled etching reaction, while ferric chloride and hydrochloric acid act as etchants.
The application of the product can lead to different results, depending on the metal structures under investigation. Etching reveals the different phases and grain structures within the metal. It allows the study of grain size, phase distribution and other microscopic features of the alloys under investigation.
In summary, this microetching agent is particularly suitable for the study of Ni-based alloys and monel metals.
