Phosphate Buffer 0.2 mol/l, pH 7.2 - 7.4
The phosphate buffer with 0.2 mol/l, pH 7.2 - 7.4, provides a stable buffer environment for a variety of biological and biochemical reactions. In particular, it provides effective pH control for DNA and RNA extraction, protein purification and cell culture. It consists of a solution of sodium dihydrogen phosphate and di-sodium hydrogen phosphate in purified water, which has a pH in the range of 7.2 to 7.4. This pH region is optimal for many biological processes, including enzymatic reactions. Solids are completely dissolved in the solution and the sodium azide effectively prevents microbial contamination, which increases storage stability. Due to its high buffering capacity, which is due to the mixture of phosphate acid and base, the pH remains stable even when acids or bases are added. Therefore, this buffer is used in many life science, medical and histological applications where a stable, slightly alkaline environment is required.
