ROSSMANN’s Fixative

At the chemical level, ROSSMAN fixative consists of alcohol-saturated picric acid and formaldehyde. Picric acid, a strong acid, denatures proteins, while formaldehyde acts as an aldehyde, forming covalent bonds between protein molecules and other cellular components.
