Iodine-potassium iodite solution, also known as Lugol's solution, is a chemical solution used in histology and cytology. It consists of elemental iodine and potassium iodide dissolved in water. The solution has an intense brown color and is commonly used to stain and identify starch and glycogen in tissue sections and cell preparations.
In medicine, Lugol's solution is also used to diagnose and treat thyroid disorders, as iodine is an important component of thyroid hormones. It can also be used as an antiseptic to disinfect wounds or as a component of contrast agents in diagnostic imaging.

LUGOL solution (iodine-potassium iodite) is an in vitro diagnostic solution used for staining tissue samples. It enables differentiation of cell structures and helps identify pathological changes, which is essential for diagnosis and research in histology, cytology and pathology. The solution consists of aqua dist./VE water, iodine and potassium iodide.

It aids in the assessment of thyroid dysfunction and enables targeted treatment planning.
