Hydrogen peroxide 3% serves as a versatile laboratory chemical in various fields. In histology and cytology, it is used to oxidize tissue samples. The oxidative property leads to modification and brightening of structures, which facilitates microscopic examination.
It is also used as a solvent and cleaning agent by breaking down and oxidatively removing organic contaminants. In addition, it is used in materialography to create oxide films and is used as an etching additive in ammonia-hydrogen peroxide etchings.
The mode of action is based on the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen, an exothermic process that has a strong oxidative effect.
Furthermore, hydrogen peroxide 3% is used as a basic ingredient for the self-production of detergents and disinfectants. In these applications, it allows the destruction of microorganisms by oxidizing their cell structures.
