Chromic Acid 10 %
Chromic acid 10% is an aqueous solution in which chromium(VI) oxide is dissolved. It is used in various applications, including histology, metalworking, and glassware cleaning.
In histology, chromic acid is mainly used as a fixative to preserve cell structures and tissue samples for microscopic examination. Fixation stabilizes cellular components and preserves tissue morphology. The chemical functioning of chromic acid as a fixative is based on its ability to cross-link proteins and other cellular components. The resulting covalent bonds between molecules lead to stabilization of cellular structures, allowing detailed microscopic analysis.
In metalworking, chromic acid is used to passivate metals, especially stainless steel. The passivation layer protects the metal from corrosion and increases its resistance to environmental influences. Chromic acid can also be used in electroplating to deposit a thin, uniform chromium layer on metals.
In the cleaning of glassware, chromic acid is used to remove organic contaminants. The strong oxidation effect of chromic acid allows effective removal of residues, thoroughly cleaning the glass surface.
The advantages of chromic acid over similar products are its rapid fixation and high penetration into tissue samples for histology, and its strong oxidation effect for cleaning glassware and passivation of metals in metalworking.
