Fixing mixture for silver nitrate impregnation
Silver nitrate impregnation fixative mixture is widely used in histology and medical diagnostics. It finds application in silver nitrate impregnation to visualize microscopic structures, such as nerve fibers or fungal structures.
The special suitability of this product lies in its ability to remove unreduced silver ions, allowing improved contrasting of stained structures. It is particularly suitable for use in histological and medical diagnostics, as it allows precise identification of specific structures.
Chemically, the fixative mixture consists of sodium thiosulfate-5-hydrate, potassium disulfite, and ammonium chloride dissolved in aqua bidest. During use, these components react with the unreduced silver ions and lead to their removal from the preparation.
The operation of the fixing mixture is based on chemical reduction processes. Non-reduced silver ions are reduced by the reducing agents sodium thiosulfate and potassium disulfite contained in the mixture. The additionally contained ammonium chloride regulates the pH value, creating optimal conditions for the reduction reactions.
